Tennessee Technological University Tuba/Euphonium Studio (USA)

The Tennessee Technological University Tuba Ensemble, currently celebrating its 40th year of performances and recording activity, has been selected by The Tennessee Board of Regents to receive the prestigious TBR Academic Excellence and Quality Award. The TTTE is the first music program in the state of Tennessee to receive this award. Additionally, the ensemble has been notified that its latest CD recording release, CARNEGIE VI, a documentation of the group's sixth appearance at Carnegie Hall in New York City, on the Mark Records label was submitted and accepted by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) to be included on its “Grammy Entry List.”

The internationally acclaimed Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble (TTTE) from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville , Tennessee , is considered the “pioneer” ensemble of its kind. The TTTE is continually received with favor by audiences from Carnegie Hall in New York to Jackson Square in New Orleans . The group has been described as one that is “not a novelty, but an ensemble with a unique sound.” The TTTE has received the highest accolades from the professional world of tubists and euphoniumists, music educators, and professional reviewers. Following the example of the TTTE, similar groups have formed all over the world. Music generated by and for the Tech ensemble has been performed in Japan , Australia , Canada , all over Western Europe, and throughout the United States .

Organized in 1967 by the present conductor, R. Winston Morris, the TTTE was the birth of a new concept in music for multiple tubas. Previous to this, there had been a very limited amount of activity involving chamber music for tubas. The Tech ensemble introduced the idea of the large tuba/euphonium choir with parts being frequently doubled. Needless to say, there was a total lack of literature for such an ensemble; therefore, the Tech group had to commence an extensive “search” for music. That “search” has led to the composition and arrangement of over one thousand works specifically done for the Tech ensemble by outstanding composers from the United States and abroad.

Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble (USA)

The Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble was created in February 2004. The inspiration to create the group occurred during a visit to the Western Carolina Trumpet Festival. As the “Atlanta Youth Trumpet Ensemble”, the group gave its first performance in April 2004. The ensemble was comprised of members of director Kay Fairchild’s private trumpet studio and consisted of nine players.
Following their graduation from high school, several members expressed an interest in continuing with the ensemble. In June 2004, the group was renamed the “Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble” and comprises some of the top high school and college trumpet players in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
Membership is by invitation only. Members must display strong performance and interpersonal skills. ATE performers are encouraged to develop a “lack of ego” related to ensemble participation and in their determination to succeed in personal endeavors. A genuine love of music and musical performance is essential.

The Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble has performed for the opening of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Western Carolina Trumpet Festival and the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference to name a few. The ensemble has also performed for private events, weddings and non-profit events around the metro-Atlanta area.

Some of them are: The Castle of Kalmar, Sweden; a concert during “The Pomeranian Days” in Bremen, Germany; “Music and Architecture Festival” in Toruń, Poland; The 1st International Hanseatic Convention in Goleniów, Poland; Gala of the 30th Polish Film Academy Awards Gdynia 2005, transmitted live by the Polish Television Channel II.

Brass of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (Netherlands)

In 2003, when the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra did not make its usual yearly tour to the United States, the American Friends of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra decided to invite the brass section to give concerts and master-classes in the United States. The brass section had been performing in various formations for many years but never all together (trumpets, horns, trombones and tuba). As a result of a very successful tour to New York and Philadelphia with master-classes at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School, the brass section was so enthusiastic that they decided to perform more often together. The aim of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Brass is to show music students and audiences the versatile repertoire of brass instruments in various combinations by means of concerts and master classes. These formations can vary from quartet to a large ensemble of 20 players, sometimes complemented by percussion. The RCO Brass had great success in 2004 at the Canal Festival in Amsterdam, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Philips Hall in Eindhoven.
The RCO Brass was on tour again in May 2005. They were in the United States, where they played a joint concert with the famous brass section of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Chicago’s Symphony Hall. In addition master-classes were given at Drake University in Des Moines and Northwest University in Chicago. Nick Woud, solo timpanist of the RCO and composer wrote a new piece for the brass ensemble especially for this tour.
When the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra was on tour in the United States In February 2006, the RCO Brass stayed on and gave two enthusiastically received concerts and a master class in New York.
In July of that of that same year they performed at the “Central European Festival”, a leading festival especially oriented towards audiences in Bavaria, Saxony and the Czech Republic. The RCO Brass played two concerts there, one of which was broadcasted live by Deutschland Kultur Radio. Read more...

Hora Decima (USA)

The Hora Decima Brass Ensemble is dedicated to the presentation, promotion, and preservation of music for brass instruments. In today'sworld of the internet, MTV, videocassettes, and synthesizers, accousticinstrument groups face stiff competition. While there are many smallerbrass groups performing today, the appearance of a large brass ensembleis a rare event. Sometimes symphony orchestras will feature their brasssections in one or two selections in an orchestra concert, but fullconcert programs by large brass groups are seldom heard outside ofcollege music departments. The Hora Decima Brass Ensemble is the onlylarge brass ensemble of professional players in the New York City areathat plays together on a regular basis.
Founded thirteen years ago by trombonist David Chamberlain, theHDBE began as a workshop experience for professional players to enjoybrass literature. The most common reaction of the musicians was, "Wow,I haven't had a chance to do this since I was in school!"
Regular monthly readings led to a desire to share this great sound withthe public. The HDBE has appeared at the New York Brass Conference andseveral area churches and universities. Members of the group haveperformed with the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra,Orchestra of St. Luke's, Fairfield Orchestra, several Broadway shows, recordings, and with such artists as Johnny Mathis, the Temptations, andTito Puente.

"Within the first few seconds of the Widdoes, the listener knows that this is something special. [the Nilovic Double Concerto] is simply amazing. The recording quality for the entire CD is spectacular and all the performers sound superb."
